The family moved to California sometime between 1916 and 1919 and settled in the Harbor City area. Sons, John Wiilis and Joseph Harold Mc Guire served in WWI. Joseph passed away from unknown causes in December 1919. Between 1920 and 1930, the family bought a home in the Redondo Beach area. Shortly after her eldest child, Elsie, passed away in January 1929, Mary Alice took in her three grandsons, John "Jack" Edward, Frederick Richard, and Raymond Torrance Frost.
