Fritz Adolph Otto Scheibe was born on July 21, 1896 in Clifton, Passaic County, New Jersey to parents Wilhelm Johann Adolph and Elisabeth Helene Scheibe (née Weber). Fritz attended Columbia Grammar School, graduating in 1910. Following high school, he attended SUNY Maritime College, and graduated in 1917. He enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve Force on November 20, 1917, and served as a lieutenant aboard the USS O.B. Jennings, USS Lake Michigan, USS Pensacola, and USS Abarenda until the end of World War I in November 1918.
Louise Callow Ling was born on August 6, 1895 in Georgetown, Clear Creek County, Colorado to parents, Abraham Thomas and Florence Caroline Ling (née Manning). She received a nursing degree in 1918 from Colorado State Teachers College, now known as the University of Northern Colorado. Following graduation, Louise enlisted in the United States Navy, serving as a hospital nurse at American military bases in Siberia, the Philippine Islands, Guam, and Hawaii.
Fritz and Louise met while they were both stationed in the Philippines and married in Manila on May 7, 1921. At the end of their active military service in 1922, the couple settled in San Francisco where Fritz worked as a Merchant Marine sailing in the Pacific Northwest. In 1922, a daughter, Florence Elise Scheibe was born. The family relocated to Wilmington, California in 1924. Fritz worked for Union Oil for a short time in the mid-1920's and later as a captain for Dollar Steamship Lines. Mid-career, Fritz began working as a marine surveyor for several firms, including the Phineas Banning Young Company and the Board of Marine Underwriters. Louise continued to work as a nurse in local Wilmington doctor's offices. Florence attended Phineas Banning High School, graduating in 1941.
In 1941, the family moved to Rolling Hills, California, but remained active in Wilmington community activities and clubs. Fritz was an active member of Masonic Lodge 198 and the Propeller Club of Los Angeles. Louise was a founding member and first President of Wilmington American Legion Auxiliary and the Wilmington Business and Professional Women's Club, and frequently lectured on her experiences as a Navy nurse. The couple were also patrons of the Order of the Eastern Star, and were members of Demolay and Job's Daughters.
Following high school, Florence attended the University of California, Los Angeles and later became head of the note department at California Bank, San Pedro. She married Eric Crawford Jacobsen on September 6, 1947 in Wilmington, California. The couple settled in Petaluma, California, where they had a daughter in 1948, but soon relocated to Lomita where they had two sons, the first in 1951 and the second in 1953.
Fritz passed away on February 9, 1958, followed by Louise on September 16, 1959. The couple are buried at the Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach, California.
