This is a treasured photo. It was taken by Charles Ironmonger who made numerous photos of Avalon Harbor and other So. Cal. Locations over his life. My grandfather, knew him. I have one of his photos as well. They are quite the collectible. The house in the bottom right is the Holy Hill House. The barely visible house on the Mountain near the road is the Marconi House. This home was built and from which one of the first if not the first telegraphs was sent. The Steamer pier is old. This photo was taken prior to the time in which Wrigley built the Casino Ballroom. The front street was not yet paved and for the most part there was a tent village. The tents were rented to visitors. They were of a semi permanent nature in that they had wooden frames over which the tent material was placed. My grandfather told me about the tents and reminded me that people then were no different than they were at the time he told me of this part of the history of Avalon. The Bell tower had not been built yet either. Wonderful old photo of Avalon.
